The Iraqi Group Meets the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General

The Iraqi Group for Foreign Affairs held a meeting with the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Ambassador Mohamed Al Hassan.

During the meeting, both sides affirmed the importance of supporting the democratic process in Iraq, particularly the upcoming elections, and ensuring their integrity and transparency, while commending the role of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC). They also discussed enhancing cooperation with the United Nations in the areas of development and capacity building, and reviewed the future of the partnership in light of the end of the UNAMI mission’s mandate at the end of 2025, which contributes to supporting reform efforts, stability, and sustainable development in Iraq.

The Iraqi Group also emphasized the vital role played by Iraqi think tanks in supporting decision-makers and enhancing the strategic understanding of internal and external challenges, noting the importance of expanding partnerships between Iraqi research institutions and international organizations.

In this context, the delegation of the Iraqi Group reviewed the outcomes of the Iraqi Research Leadership Forum, which hosted an elite group of prominent international Iraqi researchers, as a leading national platform for enhancing strategic dialogue and contributing to supporting reform and development paths in Iraq.

For his part, Ambassador Al Hassan praised the efforts of the members of the Iraqi Group for Foreign Affairs in communicating with the international community and enhancing Iraq’s external presence in accordance with Second-Track Diplomacy.
